Mexico, 2003, 1 hour 33 minutes, subtitles

The most popular film of the year in Mexico, this fast-moving, grimly funny crime caper is an exotic cocktail of 3 parts Amores Perros to one part Pulp Fiction, and one part Lock, Stock, mixed with a dash of Coen Brothers. Computer hacker and nerdy voyeur Lolo is so busy spying on his beautiful neighbour that he mixes up the vital computer discs and sets off a train of horrible (and hilarious) cock-ups involving a bag of diamonds and among others – a trigger-happy Russian Mafiosi, El Coyote - a hard man who is scared scared of dogs, a cockroach, a sexy young pharmacist who is gasping for a fag, a domineering barber, and a string of incompetent criminals. Stylishly shot and cleverly edited, the bloody plot is linked by a series of good running gags about cigarettes and the multitude of ways that nicotine addiction can be bad for you. A really fun movie!

Winner of 6 Ariel Awards (Mexico’s Oscars) including Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress.
